Like every other faculty, the Dental Faculty of University Malaya also has its own annual dinner. Namely, Annual Dental Night(ADN). So what's so special about ADN? I mean it can be just any other dinner right? So why do people spend so much time and effort to make it happen? Some say it's to make memories, but in everything we do, memories are still made right? But whether the memories made are meaningful or not, it differs and this is one of the goals of ADN. To make the night meaningful and memorable. ADN 2016/2017 fell on the 11th March 2017. Themed Enchanted: whimsical touch to a magical world, Eastin hotel was made as the house to our dinner. Upon entering the hotel, backdrops with various flora made it clear that the atmosphere implies somewhat of an enchanted forest. Themed Enchanted, it was no surprise that the dinner would have a nature that follows those of fairy tales. The registration counter opened at 7.30pm. Entering the ballroom, guests were invited by an enthralling performance by our own bard, Lee Jia Wei, with the songs castle on the hill, true and shape of you. It was this alongside with the coloured lights that made the atmosphere inviting. Soon, the announcement on the arrivals of VIP cues the end of Jia Wei’s performances. Following that, the usual protocols of playing the national anthem to the speeches by the Director of ADN 2016/2017, Aminah Binti Mohd Shariff, President of DENSOC, Shangeetha A/P Sellapan, and last but not least, our Dean, Professor Dato Dr Zainal Ariff.and ended with a short clip of the AJK’s video . Dinner started with a video showing a girl, who seemed to have wondered around the hotel and ended up going through the door into the ballroom. Alice(Xiang Ling), the wondering girl, came in and claimed to be looking for a key to a treasure chest. As she waltz around, she found the key under the Dean’s chair. With that, she invited the Dean, ADN advisor, A/P Dr Norintan Binti Ab Murat, and the director of the event to open the treasure chest to officiate the event. Following the opening ceremony, the ballroom was swarmed with waiters and waitresses alongside with some of the committee members, who greeted them with food as they danced along the song “Be our guest”. After the food presentation, as the audience filled their plates with scrumptious food, breathtaking performances with both dancing and singing by the second years and first years, not forgetting an encore of Jia Wei’s performance. Of course, we also had two amazing performances by Dr Maria Angela Garcia Gonzalez followed by Professor Dr Sabri Bin Musa.
Of course, what is an annual dinner without the best dressed and the Mr/Mrs personalities right? After a lengthy discussion, for the best dressed award, crowned king was Mohd Khairul Izwan Bin Pauzai and crowned queen was Tan Yao Zhi. Mr personality falls to Joshua Ong and Shangeetha was given the title Mrs personality. Also, there were several lucky draw sessions and a video by the fifth-year students. It was rather a touching piece as it shows how much they've grown from their freshmen years to the final year. Needless to say, it wasn't just a moment where the final years reminisce on how far they've come, but also as a vitamin to boost the other students’ spirits to race to the finishing line. The beacon of the end was shown with a special performance by the committee members themselves which ended with a group photo.
