The 2nd Cleft Lip and Palate (C.L.A.P) run was held on the 23rd of April 2017. This charity run was started in 2016 by the 4th year dental students to raise funds for patients with cleft lip and palates. This is due to the high costs of treatment for cleft lip and palate which is considered a huge burden for the patients who are not very well off. Besides that, this run serves as a way to promote awareness among the public about cleft lip and palate patients and enlighten people to their plight.
This year, a total of 750 participants joined C.L.A.P run. The participants included University Malaya students, lecturers, staff and the public. Each participant was given a goodie bag which included a Brooks T-shirt. The run was held at the University Malaya Sports Arena. Participants started arriving from as early as 6a.m. At 7a.m., a brief warm up session was conducted to allow everyone to prepare themselves for the run. The run was officially started at 7.30 a.m.
By around 10.30 a.m., most of the participants had successfully completed the 7km run around University Malaya. Free energy drinks and bread were given out to the participants. Although the run had ended, but there was more to come. Lucky draw sessions were held next, giving out amazing prizes to the few lucky participants. The prizes included hampers, watches and even a pair of Brooks running shoes! Last but not least, there was even a wonderful violin performance which captured the hearts of everyone present. This year’s C.L.A.P run has been a tremendously successful event which managed to raise funds for cleft lip and palate patients while simultaneously creating awareness in the public eye about them. This is a truly meaningful event which would not be possible if it were not for the contributions of the various sponsors and the hard work of the 4th year dental students. Kudos to them for pulling off such a great job!
