Cleft Lip and Palate (CLAP) Charity Run 2018 was organized by the year four dental student of University Malaya on the 13th of May (Sunday) to raise fund in support of children born with clefts who require much care throughout their growing years. The funds were collected from the run was channelled to Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Malaysia (CLAPAM), and Cleft Lip and Palate Foundation to support the treatment for the patients. This run had three different fun stations which were the water, foam, colour and bubble stations that merged together to form the wonderful theme which was Miles for Smiles. There were a few categories, namely the 7 kilometres men and women open run, 7 kilometres virtual run and 2.5 kilometres family open run. Each participant was entitled to an event T-shirt, finisher medal, Bib, e-Certificate and drawstring bag. The registration started at 6a.m., despite the drizzling many participants still showed up in support of the event. Before the start of the run, participants warmed up by taking part in Zumba. The starting point was Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC) of University of Malaya. Flag off time for 7km open run and 2.5km family run were 7.15 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. respectively. After finishing the course, the participants were entertained with the delightful dancing performance by the organizing committee followed by inspiring speeches which were given by the director of the charity run, miss Peong Khay Syeen then dean of faculty of dentistry, Yang Bahagia Professor Dato’ Dr. Zainal Ariff Abdul Rahman and lastly the principal director of oral health, Yang Bahagia Dato’ Dr. Noor Aliyah binti Ismail. After that, Professor Dr. Rosnah Binti Mohd Zaim was invited onto the stage in order to initiate the prize giving ceremony. Trophies were give away to the top ten finishers of both men and women 7km open run and the first place winner of each of the subcategory for 2.5km family run. Next was the presentation of mock cheque worth RM 10,000 to the Chairperson of Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Malaysia, Mr Zainal. Also, prizes were given away during the lucky draw session. In short, the Cleft Lip and Palate Charity Run 2018 was a success. Everyone has fulfilled a moral responsibility by practising charitable giving, at the same time all of them have had a whale of a time.
