15th December 2015
On the 15th of December 2015, the Mid Year Meeting (MYM) for DENSOC was held. The Mid Year Meeting was held in the auditorium on the 11th floor of the Postgraduate building. This was an important meeting for all members of DENSOC as its main agenda was to update all members on past, current or any future events of DENSOC. Most of DENSOC’s members managed to attend the meeting.
The meeting started at 5.30p.m. with an opening speech by the president of DENSOC, Tan Yi Yang. Right after that, the meeting continued with brief reports on the current and future events and activities of DENSOC. First was the joint orientation which was held in the first week of semester for the first year students. Amirul Fahmi was the head of the joint orientation. Next, Ng Mei Yuan took the stage to report on the Senior Freshie Staff (SFS) Night which was held as a platform to promote bonding between all seniors, freshies and staff of Dental Faculty.
Soon after, a brief report on the Faculty of Dentistry Mentorship Program (FDMP) was given by Lee Kuo Wei. FDMP was a program held to expose students to the working environment of dental clinics. After that, Tan Yuan Shern gave a report on the Interbatch Sports, a sports event between the different batches of dental students. Lastly, Chin Yi Jing went onstage to report on the Baktisiswa program. This year, they will be organising a charity run.
That concluded the reports of DENSOC events and thus the meeting shifted focus onto the international programmes such as the Inbound, Outbound, IADS and APDSA programmes. Ooi Xin Di and Lou Sin Wei both explained thoroughly to all members the details of every programme and the various ways to apply. Following that was a report from Violette Ong Xinhui to update all members on the current status of the official DENSOC website, DENSOC’s Facebook page and the activation of DENSOC’s Instagram account.
Next, Benson Eoh Ben Sheng went up on stage to present the merit mark system of DENSOC. Merit marks were crucial in determining whether a member is allowed to join a programme or not. The presentation was very helpful in clearing up any confusion members might have about the marking system. The last agenda of the meeting was the presentation of the design for the new DENSOC T-shirt, which was presented by Ungku Farah Wahidah.
The meeting ended at 7.00p.m. and members were given refreshments before leaving. All in all, the meeting was a success and managed to present the aforementioned agendas to all members of DENSOC.
