National Dental Intervarsity Sports Carnival 2017
National Dental Intervarsity Sports Carnival (NDISC)
Once a year, dental students from all institutes (IPTA and IPTS) throughout the nation gather for the National Dental Intervarsity Sports Carnival (NDISC). This year, NDISC was held on the 1st of April 2017 at University Sains Malaysia (USM) in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. The aim of NDISC has always been to promote the fitness and mentality of dental students as well as foster strong relationships and bonds.
More than 30 dental students from UM participated in this year’s NDISC. The event started at 8a.m. It was definitely an awe-inspiring sight, seeing dental students from all corners of the country gather in one field. There were also various stalls selling food and drinks for weary participants and supporters alike. The sports events organised included track and field, basketball, volleyball, futsal, badminton and so on. The events were all held simultaneously.
The sports events went on until around 5p.m. before concluding. After that, all the participants rested and ate dinner before the closing ceremony, which was held in the main hall. Besides the usual speech and prize giving, there was also a mesmerising dance performance by the USM dental students. At the end of the day, UM won two medals. First runner up in women’s 400m was won by Sharmila, and the men volleyball team managed to snag second runner up. The overall winner of NDISC was USM. This year’s NDISC was organised smoothly and expertly by USM. It ended on a high note and in my opinion, managed to bring all dental students a little closer to one another while allowing students to enjoy life outside of their busy schedule.
