Graduation is an exciting time. It marks both an ending and a beginning, warm memories of the past and big dreams for the future. The 2016 pre convocation ceremony was held on 17th October 2016, at Dental Faculty, Balai Ungku Aziz. Parents, relatives and friends carrying bouquets and presents and newly graduates don in graduation robes and caps with heads held high and chest puffed up entered the auditorium, followed by special guests, academic staff and students. Everyone had a big smile placed on their face. It was the long awaited ceremony of the year for the students. The ceremony then began shortly, where everyone stood up and sang the national anthem and the university song, and later an opening prayer was said. An inspiring and welcoming speech which was short and sweet was given by our Dean, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Zainal Ariff. Then came the most anticipated moment, the certificate and prize presentations to all graduates. Distinction students, dean’s list students and excellent achievers, whom performed well throughout the year were also given certificates. Also the ‘Hadiah Buku Universiti”, the “Tun Razak Gold Medal” awards, and “Dr. Sim Tang Eng” award for Aesthetic Dentistry were also given. Cheers, claps and bursts of flash lights filled the auditorium. A speech was given by Tan Yi Yang, representing all the students of his year. It was a very touching and inspiring speech for all of us. A few of the graduating seniors also shed tears as he was sharing his and his fellow batchmates experience and hardwork throughout the 5 years. Even a few of the undergraduates were so inspired that they were also sobbing. He left the audience in awe and silence and a few in tears. Later, the oath taking ceremony took place by the newly graduates. The new graduates read out the oath as loud as they could as the auditoriun was echoing. Then, a short video clip compiling of all the events and activities they have joined was shown. This was also a very touching moment as it showed friendship and great and irreplaceable memories developed throughout the 5 years.
Finally, the Pre Convocation Ceremony came to an end with the Universiti Malaya song being sang. The special guest started to leave the hall. Flash lights, clicking sound, laughter, tears and kisses filled the auditorium. It was indeed a very inspiring and motivating moment for us undergraduates. Congrats, Doctors, you all have done the impossible. Best wishes for your career ahead!
